The CCHA (Canadian Craft and Hobby Association)
recently announced that they will be holding special meetings in
Calgary April 7 and Toronto April 8 regarding the future of the
association. There is a motion proposed to negotiate a merger
with the U.S. based CHA Craft and Hobby Association. Attendance
at the meeting is for members only, and details of membership
can be found at:
Qualifications:
Application :
A letter was address to the Canadian Craft
Industry March 16 that included the following details about the
meetings is below.
Any craft industry professional may direct any comments or
concerns to the association at
info@cchacanada.org ,
however only voting members will decide the outcome of the vote.
SPECIAL MEETING FOR CCHA MEMBERS
For the past 30 years the Canadian Craft and Hobby Association
(CCHA) has served the Canadian Crafting industry through trade
shows, educational events, publications and membership services.
As part of the ongoing review of the mission of CCHA, the Board
of Directors has been evaluating options for the association and
its members. The Board of Directors would like to present those
options to the membership of the association at special
meetings. The location and timing of these meetings are as
follows:
Western Canada: Best Western Port O Call
1935 McKnight Blvd NE
Calgary, Alberta
T2E 6V4
403-291-4600
Date & Time: Wednesday April 7 2010, 9.30am - 12.30pm
Eastern Canada: Courtyard by Marriott
90 Biscayne Crescent
Brampton, ON
L6W 4S1
905-455-9000
Date & Time: Thursday April 8, 2010, 1pm - 4pm
The Board would like to discuss the
association’s current options:
• Continue to operate in our current state and work to find
additional members and revenues to sustain the organization in
Canada on an independent basis.
• Continue to operate until funds are depleted.
• Merge the organization with CHA and benefit from their
resources to build on our current state.
After very careful consideration of alternatives, it is the
proposal of the majority of the Board of Directors that the
Canadian Craft and Hobby Association be given a mandate to
negotiate the terms of a merger with the Craft and Hobby
Association (CHA) based in the United States. The details of a
merger will be based on the following points.
• That a Canadian operations person be retained, with an office
in Canada
• Canadian representation on CHA Board
• All assets to be transferred to CHA with a stipulation that
they must be spent for Canadian industry benefit within mutually
agreed time frame.
• Conduct consumer shows in Canada within mutually agreed time
frame.
• Explore opportunity for a trade show in the near future.
• Trade education and networking is important.
• CHA member benefits be adapted to Canadian business where
possible.
The special meetings will give members the
opportunity to hear about the options for CCHA and ask questions
of the Board about the proposed merger with CHA. Members will
then be asked to vote on the options. If the option to pursue a
merger with CHA is approved, a committee made up of members of
the Board will pursue merger discussions with CHA. Once
complete, members will have the opportunity to vote on the final
terms of the merger agreement at a later date.
A proxy vote is available for members who are unable to attend a
meeting and information on proxy votes can be requested at
info@cchacanada.org
