Six Fun Sticker Techniques

Stickers are often our most common embellishment that we use in scrapbooking. They are quick and easy to use. They come in such a huge range – any size, shape, style and topic. Often you choose a couple of stickers that go with your layout, stick them down and that’s it.

Why not try something different. Here are six fun ideas you can use with your stickers.

1) Stuffed Stickers. Pad out your stickers to give them a 3D effect. Just apply some foam adhesive to the back of the sticker staying away from the edges. When sticking down your sticker be sure to stick down the edges as well. The center of the stick should remain raised.

2) Fill-in Templates. So you can’t find the perfect patterned paper to use with your templates, try this. Trace your shape onto white paper and cover with sticker pieces. Lay your template over the sticker pieces, trace with a black pen and cut out. You can also embellish the shape with additional stickers.

3) Weaving. You’ve probable done this with paper, now try with stickers. Begin by applying border stickers to page leaving the sticker backing on about 1/3 of the sticker. Line the strips so they are about 1cm apart. Next remove the backing from the vertical strip and dust with baby powder to lessen the tackiness. Do the same with the horizontal strips. Carefully weave the less tacky ends of strips. Adhere sections to your pages as necessary.

4) Cover-up. Stickers become a truly necessary supply when there’s something that needs to be hidden. If you have a picture with blurry unwanted fingers in the foreground, a sticker will make a perfect corner accent. Keep stickers close at hand so you can cover up any journaling mistakes without have to start over. Border stickers can be used to cover entire lines where necessary.

5) Mirror Images. Creating a mirror image is easy using reverse image stickers. Reverse image stickers feature a pair of identical images that face opposite directions. For a reflection in a pond attach a blue piece of paper as the background for pond base. Apply reflection sticker belly up. Attach vellum over reflection sticker (the water) Next apply the actual object sticker by the edge of the pond.

6) Decorate Diecuts. Combining stickers with diecuts and punches can give you endless possibilities. Try these two.
Diecuts: Apply stickers to white paper, center diecut over stickers, adhere and cut out.
Punches: Layer stickers on scrap paper and punch our your shape.
